Oliver T. Edwards was born in Spokane, Washington. He attended Washington State University where he studied zoology and botany. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska in wildlife management (1939-1940). His work included charting the migration of bears, taking a census of elk, and photographing wild sheep and goats.
